How do I install this?

Hoppers are nodes that can transfer items to and from the inventories of adjacent nodes. The wide end of a hopper is its "input" end, if there's a chest or other compatible container it will take one item per second into its own internal inventory. It will also draw in items that have been dropped here. The narrow end of the hopper is its "output" end. It will attempt to inject items into a compatible container located at its output end. If there's no compatible container and the hopper's "eject" mode has been enabled it will instead dump the items out into the world.

Also included in this mod are a "chute" node and a "sorter" node. These allow for items to be routed over short distances and distributed in sophisticated ways.

A chute simply moves items into adjacent nodes. You'll need to use a hopper or sorter to inject items into it to move along. A screwdriver is a useful tool for getting chutes aimed correctly.

A sorter has two different outputs. Its inventory has a "filter" grid; place items in this grid to set the sorter's filter. Items that match the filter will be sent out the output with the large arrow and other items will be sent out the output with the smaller arrow. A "filter all" option will cause the sorter to attempt to send all items in the direction of the large arrow and then if that fails send them in the direction of the smaller arrow. This allows you to have an "overflow" storage should the sorter's primary target fill up, or when used in combination with a selective container (like the furnace's fuel slot, for example) it allows the target inventory to do the filtering for you.

Do you recommend this mod?

  • Hard to play without

Makes early-game a bit more tidy since once you can make a hopper, you can just put everything from your recent mining trip inside and take advantage of the 4 output slots that furnaces in minetest_game have.

  • I love this mod, but I am wondering, would you please make "wooden hoppers" too?

As a first foray into sorting/automation, this hopper mod is excellent. I definitely wanted hoppers from Minecraft in Minetest. However, I also remember the "wooden hopper" mod, and was sad that this didn't have a comparable one. I looked into the coding of it, and I am unsure whether or not I could make one, so I am wondering. Would it be okay to ask if you could also make wooden hoppers? Even if it were logs (instead of planks) instead of iron ingots, and even if it wasn't anywhere near as good (even one storage slot would be okay, or perhaps exclude the option to make it eject items, or slower, or some combination of all three), I would really appreciate the wooden varieties in Skyblock/ Skyfactory playthroughs, where iron is scarce until mid/end game.

Or perhaps you could teach me how to make wooden hoppers? I'm not very good at images, but I do have some that are passable, maybe for wooden hoppers. All I need is to know how.

    Fey-Yell.

  • Very interesting mod for simple automations

Have you ever went out to explore a cave and returned with your back packs full of several different minerals? This is the mod for you: place a hopper on top of a furnace, and another on the side. This will allow you to place coal on the side one and the raw minerals at the top and they will be filled very quick. Add another hopper at the bottom of the furnace to a chest and the cooked items will be stored.

    Simple and functional.
