This mod is used to create 'The Darkest NodeCore server' which is most certainly a challenge. In order to succeed with this mod enabled, or on the darkest server, you will need to know NodeCore fundamentals. I have been playing on the darkest server for quite some time. I tried it for the challenge and have remained because its fun and interesting, and the darkness offers some oppotunities unavailable to vanilla NodeCore.
This is one of the mods which create an extreme NodeCore experience, because of the complete lack of ambient light. Except for a couple of natural materials which emit light, the world is dark and devoid of some growing things. You must find your way in the dark which is the most immediately necessary skill and then work to advance your technology until you can sustain an illuminated environment easily.
If you believe that surely there is some minimal light so that players are not struggling from the very start, you would be wrong. This was true for an early incarnation of the server, there was a "moonlight" level of dark but this was eliminated by preventing air from passing light. You might choose to include 'Luminous tools' mod to increase lighting options but vanilla NodeCore already provides a craftable lantern.
Not just "kinda dark"
