BETA RELEASE

In this minigame you need to reach as soon as possible the correct platform to stay alive and don't fall down. The last one who still alive will be the winner of the game.

# HOW TO INSTALL THE MOD: #

After the download of the mod, put it inside the folder "mods", enable this mod and follow these steps in the game:

  1. type /colour_jump create <arena_name> (this will create your minigame)

  2. type /colour_jump edit <arena_name> (start to edit the arena of the game)

  3. use the editor to place a minigame sign, assign it to your minigame.

  4. While in the editor, move to where your arena will be.

  5. Make your arena.

  6. Using the editor tools, and change the coords of the blocks and change the Ids/Name if you want to change the type of blocks. To change the coords of the blocks you need to do it in the "init.lua" and change the "properties" node or do it direclty by the editor tools in game. Remember that you need to put the coords of the block of the center of the platform you are working on. Don't forget to put also the spawners of the player, always inside the editor tool.

  7. Set the arena_y (this is the height where the platforms will be placed)

  8. Exit the editor mode

  9. Type /minigamesettings colour_jump

  10. Change the hub spawnpoint to be next to the signs.

  11. Enjoy the game :)

  • Simple yet effective

A classic you can find in a lot of games. The author is also very fast at addressing issues, and they're available in general. It'd be nice in the future to customise the amount and the shape of platforms, which is currently hardcoded

    unnecessarily complicated

Basically it works, but it's not really fun to use it (in my opinion). In the game everything works as it should but, what I find very bad, the mod does not distinguish the colours correctly during the game but when building a map the developer has to specify the area that disappears or remains :/ Which on the one hand has the consequence that mistakes happen more quickly and e.g. when red is searched for, a strip of blue or money remains because you have made a slight mistake when specifying the area. This is really very annoying, even once you have understood how it works. (Unfortunately, this is why 3D worlds are not possible, i.e. the players can move not only horizontally but also vertically). Also a small point where I don't know exactly if this is only on a.e.s. but if two players fall at the same time or even one player falls faster, the one who gets to the bottom first doesn't always die first. For example, if you are playing with one person and they fall down and then you realise that you should have won and jump down yourself, you die immediately when you hit the bottom but the other person can survive for another 4 seconds.

The basic principle is good but still needs some work.

  • Gets boring fast

I think this is currently the worst minigame on the A.E.S. minigame server right now. The premise is as simple as it is boring. You just jump from platform from platform. The game will get faster over time, until it hits a limit and that's the only thing that changes. Yawn.

The reason why I think this game is so boring is because it's so repetitive. There are always 9 platforms and each round the same thing happens: 8 random platform disappear. Yawn. The game doesn't even try to be a little bit more interesting by adding some variation, surprise, challenge. The only difficulty increase here is by speed which I feel is not enough.

Balancing is also an issue. Sometimes, a jump is just physically impossible that even perfect timing and jumps won't save you. This is often the case late in the game when you must from one corner to another. While I understand the game wants to prevent games from going on forver, it still feels poorly balanced. Because the timer doesn't seem to take the required jump distance at all.

There is no consideration of colorblindness at all.

Then, the mod's coding is just horrible. The logic is very much hardcoded and painful to set up. You have to manually set the coordinates for all 9 platforms. PAIN. There is no consideration for extensibility at all. So if someone wants to seriously improve ColourJump: Don't. Burn it all to the ground. Instead, start it from scratch; it'll be easier.
