EXTRA ORDINANCE
You have several weapons to choose from. You can dig through the earth. So can they.
Automatic 200mm tank cannons, full auto grenade launching shotguns, mining lasers and antimaterial rifles are all standard issue. Tear them up and hold out until extraction!
Remember to open the inventory. That's where all the loadouts, difficulty settings, credits, controls and so on are.
This is a top down shooter, using the destruction possible in Luanti as a core mechanic. The name says a lot; you're a walking tank made of gratuitous amounts of explosives and weaponry, against a swarm of carnivorous, car-sized bugs.
This game is singleplayer focused; you can play it multiplayer, but latency is the enemy. Much of the game is serverside including movement because of engine limitations, and so if you have more than about 50ms latency you're basically out of luck. If you happen to live 30min walk away from the server on the other hand, you're good to go.
It is truly a miracle that it got finished in time.
simply amazing
Im in shock that this was put all put together in time for the game jam, this feels like a well thought out and refined game. tons of fun, great ux, playabilty all come together to make the full package. if i was to criticize one thing, it would be the inventory not having a back button on screens, requiring me to close and reopen them
A Fun Demo at A Critical Time
As a Jam Game, Extra Ordinance is very fun, which is more than I can say for most entries, and which is probably the most important aspect of the game. However, this game is more than a winning Jam entry: it is a glimpse of the future of Luanti. The author pushes the limitations of Minetest. The engine limitations are obvious, but do not break gameplay. The multiplayer support is ready, if only client-side prediction were available. The map sometimes flutters in and out of exisitance due to Luanti's lack of realtime client map control, but the gameplay is too fun for that to break it. None of these limitations prevent the game from being engaging.
What the game does show is that Luanti is almost ready to break out of the mold of Minecraft-likes and become a full-fledged engine. It points the way toward the next steps in that direction. It thwarts the too-common vicious cycle of no one working on features because no one is doing anything that requires the features, by creating something that works but could be (and ought to be) better.
If the engine limitations that are holding this game back are resolved, we can likely expect this game to reach its full potential, and we can expect many more high-quality mold-breaking games in the future.
This game is what the Jam is all about, thank you Sumi for making it!
Absolutely incredible!!
I still haven't managed to finish "fun hard", but it's very very fun! The textures are Sumianvoice-level perfect (see their textures in Age of Mending and the Backrooms) and fit the game perfectly. The different weapons are fun to try out and have good, easy-to-understand mechanics. Only bugs I found that still need to be shot: Some glitches with the camera cause it to swing around in wild ways occasionally; I started out in complete blackness because my range was set to 20 (maybe the game could automatically change it to 100?); and changing weapons mid-game is glitchy. But these problems pretty much mean nothing next to how amazing this turned out. Keep up the great work, Sumianvoice!
Scores rate how good different aspects of the game are.
Effects is mostly how the game looks/feels. If a game doesn’t have good-looking textures, particle effects, or architecture that is actually plot-relevant, it can get a low Effects score.
Gameplay involves how good, fun, interesting or effective the gameplay is. If a game doesn’t have well-designed puzzles that are something a gamer actually feels they can figure out with obvious end results, it can get a low Gameplay score.
Plot, of course, is how good the plot is, how well it fits with the game itself, and whether it is actually interesting for players. If a game doesn’t have an obvious plot or goals, it can get a low Plot score.
Theme is how the game feels and is laid out. If a game doesn’t feel right, doesn't have a theme that fits its plot or gameplay, or is too bland, it can get a low Theme score.
Coolness is a rating I added because there isn't a theme this year.
All of these are rated out of ten (#/10), and the final result will combine all these scores out of fifty (#/50).
Effects: 10/10
Gameplay: 8/10

Best and most creative game in Minetest history
Awesome GUI design, realisation and concept.
I didn't know things like this were possible
The game is amazing, it is a bit intense on CPU at mapgen time but it is amazing game to play. The interface is the best of all of the jam games and the gameplay is simply beautiful. This is the type of thing that people should be making for these jams.
Lots of fun, Super challenging and replayable.
This game is a lot of fun, featuring customizable loadouts and waves of monsters. The movement and mechanics are crazy, I never thought I'd see something this adanced in Luanti!
That is imnpressive
I am really impressed! This game shows what the Luanti engine is capable of doing! Creating it “just for a game jam” is even more impressive and shows deep understanding of how the engine works.
Turning Luanti into a top down shooter is possible
I won't lie, this is almost as mindblowing as mineos was in last year's jam. I thought I knew what Luanti can do but this game says the contrary.
As the game has already received a lot of compliments, I won't repeat much here. I was more shocked by what the author did that from the actual gameplay (which is a solid 7 anyway). Graphics are highly refined (e.g. the ground using a non pixelated texture that perfectly espouses the aesthetics nonetheless), sounds as well (e.g. the operator voice with the radio static) and the game is in general a great showcase for Luanti. Do we also want to talk about the camera's movement which just works?
The author put a lot of effort to do something like this in 3 weeks and the community is definitely showing their gratitude. I'd gladly join them, congratulations!
Impressive
This game feels like you've pushed the boundaries of what's possible with Luanti. The custom camera movement is not what the engine was designed for, the different size scale of nodes is not what the engine was designed for, ... yet this game exists, showing us what Luanti is capable of and what it could be capable of.
At the same time, this game is incredibly polished. The visual and audio experience is beautiful and coherent. It's easy to understand the game and fun to play. I love it :)
One thing to note is that this game doesn't work well on Android. If your device is less powerful, the game will be laggy, and the mobile controls are just not what you need for this game.
Extraordinary!
Great to see an innovative game here. The camera work is great, the sound design is excellent, and even the death animation is satisfying. I had a blast playing this one :)
Amazingly Fun
Spectacular gameplay, i never even thought that this level of graphics was possible with minetest (but yeah possible in luanti Lol). to me it's the most inovative game in the jam, considering the others are just story/parkour focused. the gameplay is good, but the camera have a dyssynchrony with the player, that make me do mistakes sometimes.
Very cool, 10/10
I'd love to see this game expanded upon in the future, but it's definitely fantastic as is. The plot is very basic, but solid due to that. The gameplay is actually highly enjoyable and well paced. The available weapons are a great amount of fun, and I found myself getting into a groove with them. I have yet to fully beat the game, but definitely a load of simple fun to come back to now and again.
Nice job!
It is so good that it does not look like Luanti any more :)
Solid game
Extra Ordinance is either a top down twin-stick shooter or a third person shooter wave clearing game.
Drops you right into action, after a bit of (great) voice acting you start blasting your way thru ant-like creatures, the graphic effects and sound design is really well done, it's likely one of the most unique games made in the Luanti engine to date.
Textures are great, models are great, menus are great, UI is great as well but could use some improvement.
The camera is a bit problematic, the engine doesn't handle this kind of top down camera angles well, and you need to aim way higher than expected in order to actually hit the enemies, this is a bit annoying but I guess it could be fixed in the next updates.
Currently it feels like a one-stage demo, and I'm looking forward to seeing how this game develops.
Lots of fun
I don't even know where to begin. The game is very well done, and fun to play. It took me a few deaths to figure out the countdown after the blue ring was the amount of enemies remaining, and not how much time I had to get to the next blue ring. No shortage of loadout options either. Very impressive for a three week timeframe.
Great game-jam game
This game really pushes the bounds on what's possible with Luanti. The gameplay is solid and I really appreciate the loadout options, the shockwave especially.
The game is very resource-intensive, especially with the detailed textures, but it cools down after much has been loaded.
Amazing
This game is so cool, I didn't know such things were possible in Luanti. Can be quite hard but you can change the difficulty. Love the textures, this game is 10/10.
Incredible FPS-style game, but very CPU demanding
First off-- WOW!!! Never seen anything like this in Minetest before, this is simply amazing. The weapons are pretty awesome and destructive, the sound effects are top-notch, and gameplay is typical for a FPS game - intense. As more and more of the buggers tunnel towards you, things seem to get more and more intense, as you try to navigate away from danger while also firing wildly. This is more than replayable and I would not be surprised at all if a popular multiplayer server pops up with this later. (it will need to be powerful though - see below!)
However, this game seems to have one big flaw (maybe the only flaw) -- CPU usage :-) My computer with 8GB of RAM and 4 cores just couldn't handle it and I crashed my computer three times trying to play this. Actions were delayed by like 10 seconds when I was playing, so I couldn't even tell that the guns were working and I took a good bit of time investigating the code to see if I was doing anything wrong. Luckily, my friend let me use his much more powerful computer and it was a completely different experience - the gameplay was incredible, and I didn't have any problems understanding the game or starting my attacks.
If you've got a CPU that can run this, this is easily the best game of the Jam this year. Thank you so much for yet another amazing game, Sumianvoice!
Extraordinary!
This game is fantastic. The moment-to-moment play is engaging, and swings from tense moments as you see walls being dug out and wait for the enemy to pour through on top of you, to frantic firing and maneuvering as you try to avoid having your mech pulled apart by giant mandibles.
It could use some balancing, new enemies and objectives, but bugs in the code are, unlike the bugs in the tunnels, thankfully rare. All in all, this is a fantastic piece of work!
It's games like this why I like game jams
This game really puts Luanti to its limits by doing things that seem impossible. It's a 3rd person shooter which is highly unusual for Luanti.
The gameplay is quite well-executed. While the objective is quite simple (walk to all control points and survive against the hordes), there are 5 difficulty levels. The mining laser is very fun. There is a surpringly large number of weapons and they feel mostly balanced. I would have wished if there was some kind of unlock mechanic and multiple levels. Well, there are 5 difficulty levels. I managed to beat the first 3 so far.
The graphics qualitily is good but inconsistent. First we have a very nice-looking robot model which is expertly executed. Also the GUI is well-made pixel art. The robot rotation is absolutely smooth. The shooting particles and sound effects are well-made. BUT then we have odd floor textures with visible seams everywhere. Lava textures are just textures and for some reason don't hurt you.
But the biggest downside of this game is that it's quite obviously a giant HACK and uses MANY dirty tricks to work. I appreciate the experimentation for a game jam and love that it was attempted. And I rate this game very high. But it's not enough for a ContentDB recommendation due to instability. The map is full of dark spots, making it quite unfair/frustrating to fight the enemies because they're basically invisible in darkness. The darkness isn't a fog-of-war. The map doesn't light up close to you. The camera movement is very weird due to the hacky nature of this game but it's amazing it works at all.
I give this one a neutral rating but only because of the HACKS. But for a game jam, this is great.
I think this game is a great demonstration of why Luanti needs more camera options. :D I hope one day there will be a way to fix the hackery so that it becomes a serious game.
EDIT: Oh, the audio of this game is good. Voice acting in a game jam game is very cool. :-)
