Description
THIS IS AN EARLY TEST VERSION. This game might change drastically in the future.
Due to a gross miscalculation of the gravitational pull of Planet Hades, the latest terraforming attempt of your space crew went horribly wrong! You managed to survive, but it seems you are stranded on this hellhole of a planet full of lava, stone and ash for good!
You still have a pickaxe and a few apples. Also, water is hidden inside the tall and chaotic stone spires. So your only chance of survival is to search for water, use your crafting skills to form some soil and plant apple trees. More plants might follow. The underground holds great riches, but also great dangers, lava is death. With your new acquired resources, maybe, just maybe, you will turn Planet Hades into a nice, habitable place.
But beware: Many were not so lucky: Mutants will haunt on the surface and who knows what dangers might hide in the deep underground?
There's no goal in this game. There's a strong focus on creativity, terraforming and digging.
This game is very different from other games, it's not for everyone. ;-)

Scratches that eco itch
There is something quite satisfying about terraforming an alien planet. It scratches that eco itch. From an emotional point of view, that is valuable. Cultivating and developing chaos into life.
I did a little mining, but didn't care too much about it. The mutants regularly jump scare me, but they aren't too challenging as you can outjump them, but the converting the terrain to something lush is quite satisfying.
I really like the facts that blocks convert rather than crafting recipes, it feels more natural, and about your controlling the environment. Part of me feels that the start should be based on algae growing on water, you scrape it off, and you mix with volcanic ash to make some type of soil that could develop life (not always, and things like moss sprout off it). Maybe you enrich the mix more and more with volcanic ash, but the creation of life is not guaranteed. It would give it a unique, not so crafty start to things.
I think some of the conversions should be findable in game, like a help/basics tab in the inventory. It's a great reference. It feels needing to go to the readme will alienate a few potential players.
Also, too many crafting recipes at first. Some available initially that are core (such as saplings, tools etc.) but some extra blocks should add to recipes as you discover them perhaps.
Oh, and if you die, restart as it is not intuitive that you need mutants just to be able to get started (apples and digging tool). Maybe a help message on death could help (like the start one which was a cool nudge).
However, great base game. Very satisfying. I'm excited about the potential of this game.
Original gameplay
I had a great time discovering Hades Revisited, even if it is only in early stages. The movements are both complex with a lot of lava and rough terrain but still not unbearable with the low gravity. Terraforming is long but satisfying and that precious water won't flow everywhere as you would like that soon.
The game is rather easy to grasp with it's craft guide and lot of tooltips, which will take you by the hand for the basic terraforming and let you go on an (underground) adventure to get the components for the new toy you have seen in the guide once you have established your campement on the surface.
A little plus I like: torches are not mandatory everywhere to keep the monsters at bay
Needs in-game Encyclopedia
This game starts out with turning lava into water. Once you've grown yourself some algae/moss, made dirt, gotten wood, grass, and crops, you're well on the way to terraforming the surface. Ignore most of the cooking recipes, as the result isn't as filling as stuffing your face with an apple when you're hungry.
Now for some better tools!
...
Don't waste your time hunting iron on the surface. The midgame is all about farming cotton and watching grass grow when you're not digging your borehole to -1000 by hand (I'm to -300 and still no gold) and without an elevator back up. Want decent torches? Cotton. Want that extra inventory you'll need for actulally digging? Cotton, cotton, cotton! While writing this review, I decided I had enough metal to play around with, and I managed to kill off some of my hard-earned grass nodes when I learned how manipulate water with a pump, pipes, and a faucit. I would find it more useful though if I could figure out the tanks so I could have a relatively portable safe-drop.
I suppose this game struggles with communication. My character is dropped off on this planet, and I expect he's supposed to know a thing or two about macheniery, yet the only lead I have is the far-off goal of marble and obsidian. In-game tooltips on what elevations to find different raw materials, like emerald, would go a long way towards making this more playable.
Atrociously Laggy but Unique in Concept
I will say that I haven't tested game much beyond playing in creative, so I will say my review isn't fully genuine and especially why I give a neutral here. There's more I need to do to truly express this game authentically ;p
I will say that I did enjoy the creative startup - especially with those sounds and text - that was personally interesting and shows me the personal care put into this project. I enjoyed fooling around with the materials and tools provided, it was interesting seeing the different materials and how they interact with one another ;o
Unfortunately, the lag makes the game almost fully unplayable - with lag of up to 5 to 10 seconds long - even unmodded and in singleplayer - it's pretty difficult doing anything to survive and persevere.
The mobs felt dull - especially feeling like reskins - though I heard Wuzzy plans to revamp them as a whole - so I won't talk much in this regard.
I think I'll rewrite a better review after I've genuinely played survival - whenever that may be
Great game, Wazzy :) I tried it some years ago without the crafting recipes ...
... and I admit I was lost at how to survive / play this game, but after looking through the crafting recipes with the descriptions of how various block affect each other, well hey, fun stuff!!! Its been my favorite game for maybe 5 days now and I've created a couple new games also because I enjoy the initial exploration and challenges and experimentation of trying different strategies to figure out how to set up a livable base. 👍👍
My initial review, without looking through the crafting recipies would have been a question mark (?), but after delving in a bit deeper ... yes, nice job Sir or Ma'am - fun stuff :)
As an idea for further content, it could be fun to have rather weak bats be harrassments underground ... if course plenty of other possibilities and I am certain there are many mods that can provide similar challenges, but that is an idea ... an maybe also, of course, the rare epic 'Uber Dragon', but those are just some ideas.
Great game and I've been having fun. Thanks much
This is what ive been looking for!
I always liked the Minecraft Modpacks that let you spawn in the middle of the Desert or something,
this is basically that.
Terraforming is fun
I like the concept of terraforming and it's satisfying to see a barren landscape turn into a green oasis.
To increase my enjoyment I pimped the game with some endgame content, Hades Travelnet and increased the max stack size to 65535 to remove inventory management woes.
The change from pipeworks to water tanks is great and I like that it's easy to build large lakes. In my opinion, it can stay that way. This game doesn't need to be difficult.
I also like that the game is pretty simple.
For the creation of obsidian I had to look into the code to fully understand how it works.
very interesting idea
the game looks very interesting. i only looked at screenshots so far but i'm interested in the general idea of bringing life to an otherwise dead planet :)
Looking forward to continued development!
This is a fun challenge I spent a number of hours in. It's incredibly satisfying getting things to grow and make the land greener! I know the game needs some work, yet I could not resist porting goblins to it as they started begging me to explore the chaotic depths! Wuzzy I hope you come back to this after your other projects as the goblins are always hungry!
Nice lovely Heckscape to play around in
I don't normally use that kind of language, but I believe if you use a word for the correct meaning instead of as a curse it isn't too bad. Anyway, on to the actual review.
Most Minetest games are based on default, and that is great, but default is noticeably old, and we need some competition and freshness around here. Seriously, I think the last actual MTG feature was over 5 years ago now. This takes the normal excessively easy survival loop and defenestrates it with all the power it can muster. Defenestrate means to throw through a window. Yes, there is a word for that. Anyway, try this game out, and don't touch the lava, it is still hot. And thank you Wuzzy, for trying to make alternative games to MTG. Everyone seems to focus a lot on a certain other project of yours almost too much.
Oh, and Too Many Stones will be compatible very soon. It required major rebasing, but it seems stable. I have to do more testing to be safe though.
one of my favourites
It's fun and it's concept of terraformation is great!
I don't know why there are no other games copying the concept.
what I miss, is it's not actively updated, and after a while, you realize there is nothing to explore, and nothing challenging your terraformation plans. Maybe more interaction with the planet could be cool.
Terraforming Concept
Actually i was looking for like this exoplanetary games. Also the terraforming concept is good. It is kind off hard and is also very interesting. Hades is Venus Planets representation. Also more contents would be nice.
Nice concept and gameplay
It's refreshing to try out this mod and the concept is really interesting. Great work and looking forward to future updates!
Very fun, addictive.
Who provides the optional packages flowers, tnt and farming?
As I understand it is provided by another game, but is that possible?
Fun, unique game
I eagerly await future updates
