Porko, the Dice Game
You wake up inside a strange, dice-like room, way up in the sky, with a dice, a button, some screens... and pigs. Lots of pigs. You vaguely recall a children's game you played many years ago. What was it called again? Something porcine, perhaps?
Submission for the 2024 Luanti Game Jam.
Instructions
Install like any other Luanti game.
To play, you must reach a score of 100 or more before the AI does, by rolling the die, or passing. If you roll anything but a one, great, you add it to your score, and keep rolling, or pass, if you wish. Otherwise, your score gets reset to where it was last at the start of your turn.
Kinda boring
Its really empty so eh.
Funny, short dice game
Very simple game, but pretty fun to play a few times! It's like yahtzee - 90% luck and a little bit of skill thrown in to make it interesting. The strategies of the game itself are fairly simple - if you get anything other than a 1, the roll's value is added to your score. If you hit a 1, then you lose everything you gained on that turn, and you can pass your turn to avoid the 1 coming up. The computer (edited based on comments) is super smart, the author implemented one of the strongest strategies, so you have a less than 50% chance of winning even with ideal play, but somehow I got lucky and beat out the computer. I stuck with a strategy of doing 2-5 rolls at max and passing, and won on my first try. But the second time I played, the computer got off to a great start and I wasn't able to come back. Losing the game is quite terrifying, as the pigs suddenly turn on you and scream your headset out. Overall, a fun dice game, but probably needs just a bit more strategy to keep players interested for longer. :)
Just play literally any dice game with friends IRL and you'll have a better experience
This game is technically a complete game but extremely simple. You just throw dice in the hope to get only the number 2-6 but not 1 so you add to your score. Sorry, but I don't think this is enough to justify a full entry in the ContentDB, frankly. I would have expected at least a couple of dice games, and not just one.
Also, for such a simple game concept, I think polishing is absolutely crucial. A simple but well-polished game can make a world of a difference. Sadly, this game is not polished at all.
It's just a mishmash of existing mod code, including the dice (this is literally my own dice2 mod btw), are just copied into the. While this is not forbidden (I'm not arguing from a copyright / game jam rules standpoint), it kind of misses the point of a game jam if you couldn't even be bothered to make the key aspects of the game yourself.
And the core game mechanic is very unpolished. Using the chat to show the game status is an absolute no-go for me. At least the game itself works but that's not enough to create a fun game. :-(
Puzzling, and Painful to lose...
This game is a fun little puzzle. But be careful, you are gambling your life. Btw turn on damage for a little extra fun...
Rolling die and nothing much
Considering the game is basically hitting a button that rolls a die, I can see this working as a mod in some server/game, but seeing it as a stand-alone game doesn't make too much sense in my opinion (hence the thumbs-down). Sounds and graphics are nice, the random hogs/porks were a bit unexpected but ultimately funny :D
The game is rigged
I keep rolling a 1 😭
