Mineclonia

Description

Mineclonia 🔗

An unofficial Minecraft-like game for luanti. Fork of MineClone 2 with focus on stability, multiplayer performance and features. For information about migrating from MineClone 2 to Mineclonia, see this document.

Discord server: https://discord.gg/WAwpPWHTXZ Matrix: #mineclonia:matrix.org (Only for informal communication, particularly for players. All "official" development happens on the bugtracker!)

Differences from MineClone 2 🔗

  • Overworld depth increased from 64 to 128 nodes
  • Improved nether portals
  • Improved leaf decay
  • Improved villages
  • Wandering traders and trader llamas
  • Suspicious nodes, pottery sherds and decorated pots
  • Conduits
  • Deep dark biome and ancient hermitage (structure corresponding to ancient city)
  • Functional loom to apply banner patterns
  • Lush caves biome
  • Cherry grove biome
  • No in-game music, twice as small compared to VoxeLibre (formerly MineClone2)
  • No hamburgers (but villagers follow dropped food as in Minecraft)
  • No renamed mobs (e.g. Creepers remain Creepers, not Stalkers)
  • Overhauled mob pathfinding, physics, and AI
  • Custom Lua map generator featuring terrain and biomes that closely comport to Minecraft and which is compatible with Minecraft seeds

Gameplay 🔗

You start in a randomly-generated world made entirely of cubes. You can explore the world and dig and build almost every block in the world to create new structures. You can choose to play in a “survival mode” in which you have to fight monsters and hunger for survival and slowly progress through the various other aspects of the game, such as mining, farming, building machines, and so on Or you can play in “creative mode” in which you can build almost anything instantly.

Gameplay summary 🔗

  • Sandbox-style gameplay, no goals
  • Survive: Fight against hostile monsters and hunger
  • Mine for ores and other treasures
  • Magic: Gain experience and enchant your tools
  • Use the collected blocks to create great buildings, your imagination is the limit
  • Collect flowers (and other dye sources) and colorize your world
  • Find some seeds and start farming
  • Find or craft one of hundreds of items
  • Build a railway system and have fun with minecarts
  • Build complex machines with redstone circuits
  • In creative mode you can build almost anything for free and without limits

How to play (quick start) 🔗

Getting started 🔗

  • Punch a tree trunk until it breaks and collect wood
  • Place the wood into the 2×2 grid (your “crafting grid” in your inventory menu and craft 4 wood planks
  • Place the 4 wood planks in a 2×2 shape in the crafting grid to make a crafting table
  • Rightclick the crafting table for a 3×3 crafting grid to craft more complex things
  • Use the crafting guide (book icon) to learn all the possible crafting recipes
  • Craft a wooden pickaxe so you can dig stone
  • Different tools break different kinds of blocks. Try them out!
  • Continue playing as you wish. Have fun!

Farming 🔗

  • Find seeds
  • Craft hoe
  • Rightclick dirt or similar block with hoe to create farmland
  • Place seeds on farmland and watch them grow
  • Collect plant when fully grown
  • If near water, farmland becomes wet and speeds up growth

Furnace 🔗

  • Craft furnace
  • Furnace allows you to obtain more items
  • Upper slot must contain a smeltable item (example: iron ore)
  • Lower slot must contain a fuel item (example: coal)
  • See tooltips in crafting guide to learn about fuels and smeltable items

Additional help 🔗

More help about the gameplay, blocks items and much more can be found from inside the game. You can access the help from your inventory menu.

Special items 🔗

The following items are interesting for Creative Mode and for adventure map builders. They can not be obtained in-game or in the creative inventory.

  • Barrier: mcl_core:barrier

Use the /giveme chat command to obtain them. See the in-game help for an explanation.

Installation 🔗

This game requires luanti to run (version 5.9 or later). So you need to install luanti first. Only stable versions of luanti are officially supported. There is no support for running Mineclonia in development versions of luanti.

To install Mineclonia (if you haven't already), move this directory into the “games” directory of your luanti data directory. Consult the help of luanti to learn more.

Project description 🔗

The main goal of Mineclonia is to be a stable and performant clone of Minecraft released as free software.

  • Minecraft is aimed to be cloned as well as luanti currently permits without resorting to hacks which are too heavyweight or complicated to maintain
  • Cloning the gameplay has highest priority
  • Cloning the interface has low priority. It will only be roughly imitated
  • Mineclonia will use different graphics and sounds, but with a similar style

Completion status 🔗

This game is currently in beta stage. It is playable, but not yet feature-complete. Backwards-compatibility is not guaranteed, updating your world might cause bugs and things to behave differently.

The following main features are available:

    • Lookup tool, shows you the help for whatever it touches
    • More slabs and stairs

Technical differences from Minecraft:

  • Height limit of ca. 31000 blocks (much higher than in Minecraft)
  • Horizontal world size is ca. 62000×62000 blocks (much smaller than in Minecraft, but it is still very large)

    • Woodland Cabin (Mansions)
    • Nether Outpost (Fortress)
    • Ocean Temple (Monument)
    • Nether Bulwark (Bastion)
    • End Shipwreck & End Boat (End city)

  • Different textures (Pixel Perfection)
  • Different sounds (various sources)
  • Different engine (luanti)
  • Different easter eggs

… and finally, Mineclonia is free software (“free” as in “freedom”)!

It's much lighter and more stable :D

Thank you very much for your work! Previously, I didn’t spend much time playing MineClone because the performance on my system was quite low, usually around 0-15 FPS, which made the experience difficult to enjoy. But now getting around 45-60 FPS, which makes a huge difference. The game feels much smoother, more responsive, and overall far more enjoyable to play

    Best Minecraft Free/Libre Software Clone!

Many think it's like Minecraft, but it's much better.

Is like MineCraft but it's lighter.

Is like MineClone but much lighter and more stable.

Also is maintained, MineClone is rarely updated or fixed.

In MineClone when you report a bug it is sometimes ignored for months, other times they tell you that that bug is probably caused by a mod and that they won't fix it, even when you don't use mods. But this does not happen in MineClonia.

You can migrate from a MineClone world to MineClonia without problems.

MineClonia is Free Software and that will allow everyone to extend it, with mods that Minecraft could only dream of.

To make mods in Minecraft it was necessary for hackers to create external tools like Forge.

To make mods in MineClonia you have thousands of available tools and APIs. You can do anything you imagine ;D

    Pretty fathful

Most mechanics function as they do in Minecraft, and the gameplay itself is relatively optimized (got it running and checked task manager, only took up about 400mb of ram)

only thing i would recommend is

    a. item despawning (they dont despawn and it can cause issues over time)

    b. entity collision (trying to work on a railroad right now using a furnace Minecraft and because theres no entity collision, it goes straight through other minecarts instead of pushing it)

    other than that, pretty good!

    Mineclonia is an excellent game!

I never got into Minecraft so I can't say what it would be like to migrate from that game. I can say that I find Mineclonia to be a fun and challenging survival game that performs well, appears to be thoughtfully maintained and actively developed! There are also many mods to customize the game as well!

  • Really fun game

It mines so deep. The settings are just beautiful. It's also easy to get iron and diamonds, which I really appreicate.

It's also scary. I was trying to flee a creeper and jumped in the water to escape. The damn thing swam after me!

I get 5 fps in minecraft and 60 fps in mineclonia on my computer, this is great

süper bir oyun fakat mobları kestiğimizde ölmeleri gecikmeli cihazımdan kaynaklı değil ve lütfen oyuna develeri ekleyin(it's a great game but when we kill mobs, their deaths are delayed, it's not because of my device, and please add camels to the game)

    THE OPEN SOURCE ALTERNATIVE

First, the technical part: I'm running Mineclonia on my headless Dell Wyse 5070 mini homeserver with a j5005 Pentium Silver CPU running Debian, fanless... listen>>> fanless <<< and my kids and I connect via laptops and a desktop to it, and it just works, and it doesn't get hot. Read that again, we're not talking about needing an i3 or i5 cpu to run the server. It doesn't take a lot of cpu power for the server alone. So the world we play in is always on and ready to go from any computer we connect from. Installation of the headless Luanti server was possible with the help of coding AI. As for the clients (where we actually see and play the game), my older laptops needed FPS limited to 30 instead of the default 60 so it would flow more smoothly... and they work fine.
The clients run Linux Mint and one in Batocera OS as a PORT with the gamepad mapped to the keys needed. It's amazing how it just works. I use an XBOX controller when I play in my Linux Mint desktop but I have to do it through STEAM in order to use the controller. Just add the Luanti game to your STEAM Library.

Now, the testimonial part: My kids have played Minecraft at their cousin's house and I've asked them several times: "Is Minecraft better than this?" and their answer has constantly been a resounding "NO! Luanti is better than Minecraft" (for our household, the word "Luanti" is synonymous with Mineclonia, even tho we've tried VoxeLibre and Minetest, we prefer Mineclonia, so that's Luanti for us).

This is THE OPEN SOURCE ALTERNATIVE to Minecraft.

Please add Turkish language support(can you add village biomes to the mapgen section of the game for example v7 v5 flat village desert village etc.)

    Performant

This is really good for servers, it is really fast and does not have as many lag spikes as VoxeLibre. Though there are some weird things in the code and places commented out that shouldn't be. It is a great base for a Minecraft clone server.

    I love it!

Apologies for my bad English. I used to play MC Java Edition on Android with FCL because i hate Bugrock and Micro$oft, but i had to use 20 optimization mods for it to run OK, I then remembered about the existence of Minetest and decided to give Mineclonia a try and i love it! The gameplay is amazing and it works well even on low-end Android devices, (better than MCPE!).

It's basically Minecraft but free and more performant.

I have been playing Mineclonia for about a year.

It has proven to be a great clone of Minecraft. It has all the important core gameplay down and often updates, adding in missing features and fixes. I like it a lot and hope it keeps its current rate of development. Great job!

I also have a 16 year-old laptop that can't really run Minecraft, but it can run this.

    Well-polished, old-fashioned survival sandbox

The textures are good (even the logs). "Mod soup" is absent. There's attention to detail. It plays like a "good old-fashioned survival sandbox" game. The biomes are sized & stocked for adventure. Monsters are dangerous but beatable. It's playable on mobile.

The strongest competitors on "general polish" are Repixure and AOM, but their worlds feel desolate & wild compared to Mineclonia.

I came to the game late, put off by the "clone" in the name, and I regret it: Minecraft seems to provide a basic artistic direction, but Mineclonia has upgraded it carefully, e.g. with finer hit-boxes, a player that breathes, bouncier creatures, and less-grindy farming that still satisfies.

This game feels well-rounded without extra mods, and I look forward to playing more soon.

Great optimized Minecraft-like game! Has accurate redstone

Compared to Voxelibre, the biggest difference is that this game has a development focus on being stable in the long term, compact and performant.

    Things of note:

    • pro - Has minecraft-like redstone (Very close to MC. In comparison, Voxelibre is based on Mesecons and e.g. hard-powers any block adjecent to powered redstone dust)

    • con - No music

    This is a perfect Mineclone

Back when I played MineClone2 a couple years ago, it felt like a Minecraft clone. Mineclonia feels exactly like Minecraft, rather than just a clone.

They have nailed the vibe and the game mechanics. I still have to review how redstone works to see if it's anything like Minecraft but the overall vibe is perfect!

    Incredible work, guys. Kudos!

EDIT: In fact this feels even better than Minecraft. It feels faster, lighter, and even more polished. I also believe there's more content than in actual Minecraft. I believe it was called "Pale oak" or something like that. It's a type of tree with it's own type of wood. It looks like Dark oak but instead it's lighter rather than darker. I don't remember this being in Minecraft. I will continue to play this and refine my review.

A refinement of Minecraft v1.20's spirit, with v1.12's low-hardware performance? Nailed it.

This is the ultimate Minecraft that actual Minecraft could have been. While one could argue that content updates in modern Minecraft operate more like a "mod soup" than meaningful extensions of the game, they are still features that many players don't want to go without. The downside with that is... well, there's no nice way to put this: modern versions of Minecraft run like garbage.

Minecraft used to be a simple little game that you could run on pretty much any 64bit iGPU without any issues. This played a huge role in the minisculity of Minecraft's barrier of entry, especially for such a high-potential game, allowing Minecraft to become equally popular in nearly all countries around the globe, regardless of how developed they are. Minecraft v1.12 is an especially strong ratio between performance and the richness of in-game content.

It is my honor to support and promote the much-needed work being done here, and I would be happy to contribute any way I can.

Hard to beat when it's free.

The reproduction of Minecraft features are flawless. There may be bugs of course, but overall the quality of Mineclonia is strong enough that I could have foolishly paid money just to access it if I wasn't informed like I am now.

World generation is impressive, with the terrain itself being a strong highlight for me above the other features this mod introduces.

It's the best of older Minecraft, with many of the new features and additiosn the recent updates have.

    Just my opinion

Wow, what a great game! It's similar to Minecraft, only lighter. There are some things that could be improved, and it shouldn't be such a blatant copy of Minecraft. I'm just saying, but it's good; I think it's great. I haven't been playing it for very long, so we'll have to see how they add things and maintain it with each update.

Excellent but also a couple of issues

[Reviewing the version pre-today's release.] Only takes a few seconds to boot and runs really well. Amazing lighting, beautiful scenery and interesting things to find eg fortresses, shipwrecks, portals, guardian temples, etc. Villages and trading are great, including being able to magic a village up anywhere via /spawnstruct village. Baby villagers look like little grown-ups, lol, but the baby zombies and animals are entirely adorable. Love the jumping dolphins and wolf companions especially. Never played Minecraft, and am very new to Mineclonia, but so far really also like e.g. being able to throw snowballs, bee mod, that corners auto-shape when building, and fast-growing crops. Also, documentation in-game, and the lookup tool, are excellent.

Closed Codeberg account along with others wasn't using, but I hope it's okay to reference a few issues here. (Sorry, thought had to convert review to a thread, but now seeing should have posted as new thread.) Had to turn off the new features in Settings, as it overworked cpu/gpu of 2023 pc bought for art ie decent gpu/cpu/ram. Can't use unified inventory thus quickstack not possible too, causing many more clicks (accessibility?). Don't know if there's a way to auto-stack otherwise? No unified inventory = no waypoints. Thankfully travelnet works, and using simple waypoints mod to get 'home' [lots of text fills the sky if more than 1-2 waypoints]. Might it be possible to bring in waypoints and quickstacking? Leaf decay is so slow I thought it was broken. Has taken enjoyment out of chopping trees! Any other mod I've tried seems to get overidden, as there's no change. Have to reference too many clicks again/accessibility.

Overall, very enjoyable and nice environment to be in. Thank you to everyone involved; really appreciate, but taking a break at this point, sadly, as Mineclonia has some very uniquely nice features, but helpful inventory features are critical for a storage-based game.

    awesome... until the End...

the game is absolutely awesome and is a great replacement for Minecraft... however, there is a lot of lag when riding vehicles... I also just now realized that the kelp nodes are constantly breaking when they are generated lag the game due to how much they bounce on the water which also devours the CPU (it's an i5 7200U, so other people may have absolutely no issues with that) on my laptop... and the kelp is nearly everywhere... too many decorations, caves, caverns, etc. that are loaded into the same area and/or too many mobs will also do the same thing...

I do still find it funny that the mobs will just start flying randomly when that happens though.

also, as the title suggests, damaging the Ender Dragon in any way will crash the game... other than that, it's really fun

    Mineclonia is kinda ehh

Yes, finnally, we have a free Minecraft variant which is actually really similiar to Minecraft! But it has some bad parts: -First: I can run Mid modded minetest game on like 200 FPS but Mineclonia on 40 FPS and in high density florests in 5 FPS -Second: Super glitchy, I found 1 dupe glitches by just playing the game and a way to take no fall damage from whatever height pretty much just by croutching. -Third: It is rarelly updated, and the "makers" of this game are really lazy, saying that they will add stuff like the spear in the next update on a thread but just don't.

Conclusion and recommendation: I recommend this game for users that have some sort of RM 4900 or just play Minecraft, cuz in my computer Minecraft is smoother then Mineclonia, this is not for people that like some of the minetest game (default depended) mods.

    By the way if there's a new update on Minecraft my people, you guys will see that it will take a year for Mineclonia to half update to Minecraft, they haven't even added half of the ancient city including the Warden yet, not even frogs ;-;

Its playabl (but pvp is broken)

First of all I would like to thank the people who built this game. Mineclonia is actually a good game (especially!!! in terms of the FPS numbers they save compared to Voxelibre) I like the textures and it's a smooth game experience. It roughly sticks to the game mechanics of Minecraft with small differences. (It is important to say that many game farms based on BUgs do not work like in Minecraft). Actually I think it's good that you don't build in bugs on purpose, but sometimes it's sad when you build a machine from Minecraft but it doesn't work :( PvP also works, unfortunately not really well. I mean yes there are shields and axes to break them bows and swords but a big problem is that cooldown doesn't exist. The PvP frofies probably know what that is, it is the limitation to avoid spam clicks or that a weapon only does full damage when it is charged. I play a lot of Mineclonia pvp with friends, but it's really annoying to play without cool-down! Basically I can play as tactically as I want, I still lose because the others are spamming and clicking all the time! It's just stupid <:( So all the shields and axes and trits make no sense! Would be really great if that would be changed. PvM works without problems (recoil on skeletons too high but not really bad) A really good game I can only recommend it unfortunately because of the PvP (which I simply use the most) it only gets a ---------

Suddenly dropped compatibility with mesecons mods

It used to provide Mesecons last year (2024). The redstone was mesecon under the hood which enabled many many mods on ContentDB to just work with this game. Then they changed it into mcl_redstone and removed the entire API. This broke all my mods and hundreds from other people and when asked about this they think that's fine. I recommend playing VoxeLibre instead which is the original, this project forked from. (I do not have any affiliation with either project. This is an honest review.) All these things still work perfectly fine there.

And the bow also doesn't behave correctly with immortal entities provided by mods. That also works perfectly fine with the VoxeLibre bow.

The download number is inflated compared to VoxeLibre because Mineclonia pushes updates more often. So don't be influenced by that. Look at the statistics tab.
