This mod aims to add several unique, real-world subway trains to Luanti's Advanced Trains. New trains will be worked on when I have the time, you can see the open issues on Codeberg for a list of the trains that will be added.
WARNING
Unfortunately, the 2.x update brings breaking changes. If you have a pre-2.x version installed, be aware that the new subway trains have different names, so any existing Green Subway Wagon or Red Subway Wagon trains will no longer appear correctly.
NOTE
Aliases have now been registered for backwards compatibility with 1.x. However, for the feature to work, you need to use the AdvTrains patch "Alias for wagon types".
The displays are now set using the first line of the "Outside Text" field.
Features
Here are some features that Subways 2 brings:
- Support for AdvTrains Livery Tools
- Exterior displays with expansive Unicode support
- Removal of development assets to a different repository to reduce package size
Usage
Setting the train color
This mod supports AdvTrains Livery Tools. To change the color of a subway car, punch it with the Livery Designer Tool.
Setting the outside display text
The outside displays now show the first line of text from the "Outside Text" field. Version 2.x has unicode_text support, so thousands of Unicode characters can be used. Just enter the driver stand, select "Onboard Computer," and type in the "Outside Text" text box, as you would for any AdvTrains train.
Have any ideas and/or contributions?
If you have any ideas for more subways to be added, feel free to open an issue on Codeberg. Bear in mind that I'm still in school, so I'll have limited time during the academic year to work on new trains.
If you have a modification you've made and you'd like to submit it, you're welcome to open a pull request.
Development assets for this repository are stored at luanti-subways-dev-assets.

Beautiful Subways Trains + Bugs in LVR Type 9
Beautiful subway trains : interiors are very detailed.
I noticed two bugs for the LVR Type 9 trains : - the displayed text is the one typed in the Line field of the on board computer form and not the Exterior text field ; - I coupled an engine, a middle section, an "opposite" engine : when the train moves, both engines go in the same direction, but the middle section goes in the opposite direction (during the local animation I guess) until it is correctly replaced by the server.
Attention to detail - Absolutely love the realism here! And the interiors as well.not just outside.
I absolutely love the Chicago style trains. I wish I had the knowledge to change the appearance of the 'black' cars in the main pics here. Yes I know about livery mod, but more the physical config of the exterior.
Id like a vertically split front wind shield, and narrower side windows like on the red and green cars (though these would be split horizontally, as they slide open up and down, but closed is just fine here), with little oval windows above. This will kindof approximate the feel of the old 1940's PCC street cars, or as close as I can get at least. would be nice to see one. The yellow one in (basic trains?) is too narrow, and was made for Japan, it looks too boxy, but very historical, they only have one left on display I think, survived WWII.
They (PCC cars) typically had a cream colored top, and a dark green bottom, seperated by a thin orange stripe. or sometimes just school bus yellow bottom and white top (at least these were in Baltimore and Philidelphia, other colors can be seen still on the streets in San Francisco in YT vids, and in the green/cream, which is thankfully still on the streets in Philly. These were typically single car mode, or at the most, 2. Some were double end control, but most werent. The style influenced the 1947-57 GM TDH city transit busses, and the pre 1966 VW split window transporter (bus) with the safari roof, all of which styleisticaly are great loves of mine from my childhood. I know how to work on graphics, but not mods yet, or id volunteer an edit for you.
Otherwise, what mod are you using for those subway stations? I love the fluted mouldiing and cornice work/arches. And the stone blocks are better than what I have. Is this yours as well, or are they another source? I so need/want for my system
Otherwise good luck with your continued school work!
Compatibility problems
Very nice subways for advtrain but compatibility problems between versions.(green_subway_wagon and red_subway_wagon are missing from the new versions).
