The game is something very rare on Luanti, it's a game that deviates from Minecraft and Minetest , making your avatar 3 blocks tall and never once makes you feel overpowered or weak. Each moment out in the open requires you to stay active and aware of your surrounding as even with the best weapons the lack of armor make it so that you can die and die fast.
The game is in alpha so far so everything is up to change but for now what you can expect as a new player.
-A new crafting system without a grid, all you need is to have the materials and you can craft whatever. You can even turn blocks into different shapes and back.
-Ranged and melee weapons raning from axes to muskets.
-Treecuting, use an axe on a tree and by breaking one log the entire tree falls.
-Challenging enemies, there is no such thing as an easy enemy here, especially when they come in packs and can hit from behind, despite all that the enemies are fair and beatable, there's rarely a monent in which you can just die by accident.
-Rope, thank god for Rope, it's the one thing that you must never go mining without s it's the key to going down in massive holes in the ground without flight.
What you won't find.
- In depth crafting guide. Age Of Mending does not show you what you can craft by using ovens and smelters and if you lack the materials to make something you will no longer see what you want to craft in the recipe book.
- Furniture. There's no chairs, no tables no beds. You could pretend slabs and stairs could serve as such, but the 3 block tall character makes such illusions a hard sell.
- Character customization. The custom character height and model
-Working mods. This game requires custom mods purposefully built for it.
-Options in wood and food, only 3 of each.
I did some playtesting recently and found some similar issues, the lack of a crafting guide being the main one but also the first day is too hard, there's no way of knowing what most things do, gamemode/world options to choose difficulty settings, starter items so you have some clue of what to do and more. All things I hope to eventually add but when is another question ^^;
The main roadblock I have right now is that the game is meant to be a worldbuilding game, but realistically lacks almost all the features that make that viable.
Please don't make it easier in the beginning though. The early difficulty that came from difficulty as opposed to the grind is what brought me in. It felt I had to 'git gud' as opposed to just sticking to an insane schedule to get OP fast.
if you want to make it world building just give us more stuff to build with, we have like 90% of the materials anyone would use, we just need more stuff to use it for, Just giving us some furniture and beds would pretty double the building possibilities, especially if it comes with stuff like wool blocks or equivalents.
