I put "Singleplayer-focused" mainly because I thought it would be strange to play this on a server with random people.
I forgot that you could also play this on "LAN" or similar. Thanks for mentioning that.
Perhaps there will be more multiplayer support in the future :-)
Just a note that the game does have a bit music, but it only playes once in a while when time of day is changing. And since your time was static, you never got to hear it. :p
The fireworks currently only "hit" where they explode, perhaps I could change that. But, theres a low-altitude version you could have built instead that seems to be easier to hit with. ;-)
Thanks for the thorough investigation! When I posted this I didn't expect people to get past the initial hurdles, so it's been great to see someone do a deep dive into the mechanics. I have some ideas to solve a few of the issues I've seen mentioned, so hopefully a post-jam version can make the game a bit more smooth.
I haven't yet figured out how to turn this into a popular game though, but I'm already well motivated to investigate ideas. :-)
Hmm, so far I've only tested on my own laptop running Minetest 5.4.1 with luajit 2.1.0 on GNU/Linux. I have some theories of what could be failing though.
Some error causes the dragon not to spawn, this should have been printed on the screen I think though.
Block where dragon would spawn is unloaded, not sure what would happen but it should retry every 4 seconds or so.
Dragon spawned, but somehow bugged out and flew away. Possibly flying towards position 0,0,0.
There were 2 altars trying to spawn dragons at the same time, I know this can cause issues, I didn't have time to fix that properly sadly.
I guess I'll have to sprinkle some debug printing in the dragon's lua files, then try to reproduce it.
But, I won't be able to fix it until the game jam is over unfortunately.
P.S. I hope draconis makes it into more games, with lots of variations :-)
The original idea was to have a progress tracker per player that tells them which building to build next. (with pictures of course)
The first would be the low altitude fireworks, then high altitude, then first altar and so on.
But, I'm sure having more buildings early would be nice. Perhaps some kind of utility buildings like teleporters or something?
Indeed, the instructions should have been ingame.
I just didn't have the knowledge, nor time to aquire it, for how to make a formspec with instructions.
It's definately at the top of my wishlist. :-)
About copying buildings, the first altar is simple and that's kinda intentional. A bit like making your first pick-axe in other games.
Later buildings provide more of a challenge, especialy if you want to figure out an efficient way to build them.
Interesting, some kind of error perhaps. If day comes then the altar will be "decomissioned" and you have to build a new one. Something I plan to change next year ;-)
Well done on beating the first 2 dragons!

Nice video series!

Just want to add that if you start in creative mode, you can place as many M, C's and rails as you like to experiment.

Haha, that is true :p

Even though you can't win or lose at the moment, it's still fun to overtake the AI and test out the powerups/mechanics.
Multiplayer and damage would be on top of my wishlist.
Currently reminds me of the good old racers of the PS1, where I spent countless hours.
Also I see some people mentioning performance issues, but on my laptop it ran nicely!
Definitely one to watch!
EDIT: added a bit more info.

It appears high above the altar, then descends down into view. Shouldn't take more than 10 seconds. (I hope)
Played it yesterday with the maker and I could've easily played another hour if I didn't need sleep!
Good fun, polished and easy to get into. If you like any version or clone of bomberman, you will like this too.
Looking forward to play this with more people!
Wait until midnight. But, be ready with the fireworks, the dragon leaves at the first dawn.
