Gadgets, always ready for use
This mod is an API for registering gadgets that can be used without switching to that hotbar slot. With this API, gadgets can be used by pressing the zoom key.
(As an end user) How to use
Most gadgets supports fast-equiping by rightclicking while holding it. It will be moved into the gadget
slot of your inventory.
After equipping one, pressing the zoom key (default: Z
) will allow you to use a gadget. Refer to the manual of the gadget to know how it works.
(As a server owner) How to test the installation
This mod registers four example gadgets:
wield_gadgets:example_zoom
: This gadget, when equipped, enables zoom to the player.- This gadget sets and resets zoom POV on activate and on deactivate, and does nothing by its own on use.
wield_gadgets:example_announce
: This gadget, when used and unused (zoom key released), announces a message to the public chat.- This gadget does nothing on activate and on deactivate.
- This gadget pollutes the chatroom. Do not give it to normal players!
wield_gadgets:example_never
: This gadget can never be equipped via normal mean. If somehow equipped, it does nothing.wield_gadgets:example_while
: This gadget, while the zoom key is held, heals the player 1 HP per globalstep.
All of the above gadgets can eb obtained via /giveme <name>
.
(As a developer) Registering new gadgets
The registeration of gadgets is done via the function wield_gadgets.register_gadget
. The syntax of this function is the same as minetest.register_craftitem
, but the definition table is a bit different:
