Koboldkrieg looks like it's put together well enough, with ~4,500 Lines of Code, but unfortunately, it isn't really playable for me. For one thing, the goblins never come out for some reason, and the pathfinding for the NPCs fails too often, so that I have to remove obstacles to free them. I am also unsure of how to move or direct the NPCs. Being unable to progress, perhaps due to bugs or unclear instructions, it's unplayable. These genre of games are, however, not really my style to begin with.
Goblins spawn at night, on the red dirt nodes. If you aren't around any they'll never spawn. The waves only come from the bases, which mapgen will place in the red nodes. You may have just had a base too far away for any goblins to ever attack.
Do you have your time_speed set to 0? Unfortunately I can't ensure that the game uses the default speed. That's a setting that's global, if any other game or mod you've used changes it I can't do anything about it. (Well I could change it, but then I'd be just as bad as whomever made the other mod/game that changed the value.)
Huh. Wouldn't you know. Yes, incidentally, time_speed is set to 0. Not sure why, I don't recall messing with it. Perhaps you could spew out a warning when it's at that setting, instead of trying to change it?

At night? I don't think it ever became night. I think I saw red dirt, it's where the metal mines were. Maybe I'll try again, with a new world.

I could probably do that. The engine really just needs a way to making these changes per-world so that they wouldn't mess up other games/mods.
Oops, I also derped and had my time speed set to 0. Handy for creative mode, not good for reviewing jam games!
