How do I install this?

Create a new world - and you'll start right in a medieval village! Explore the world and find other villages of diffrent types. Buy a house in a village and settle down.

You can add your own houses and village types if you want to.

My cottages mod is highly recommended. Ethereal, RealTest and MineClone2 are supported as well.

The mod places the buildings at mapgen time. That way you'll only find villages in areas on your old map which you havn't explored yet.

Mobs and/or villagers are not included. Add them to your world to make the villages feel more alive!

Release 2020-10-16:

  • lots of bugfixes and adjustments for newer versions of MT
  • ought to run again with MineClone2, RealTest, Ethereal and the like (even AdventureTest with some changes)
  • no more crashes due to lighting errors - new code handles that more efficiently
  • some speed updates

Do you recommend this mod?

  • Works, but helpful caveats to keep in mind

Despite being removed from the downloadable database in the latest Minetest (5.5+ as I write this), it works just fine if combined with all needed dependencies and installed in the mods folder manually (in a mg_villages folder)

handle_schematics and cottages are required for full function of this mod without errors.

However, keep the following in mind.

    1. This introduces villages with ownership, meaning you cannot try to rip down houses or anything else unless you purchase the area in question, which usually costs gold or other valuable bricks/ores.
    2. If you have the Traders mod, you can trade for various good with villages, who are usually static and lie in various beds. Some glitch out and lie on stairs or on roofs from time to time.
    3. Anything in treasure chests is fair game to take, and depending on the mods you have, their contents can vary greatly.
    4. You cannot build or destroy anything within the radius of a village designated area, the game will inform you of these, unless you have ownership of the area in question.

Overall, this mod does exactly what it advertises and synergizes well with many other mods, but keep the above in mind.

  • This mod works on minetest 5.4 and later versions when the "cottages" mod is enabled.

This mod works on minetest 5.4 and later versions when the "cottages" mod is enabled. v6 or flat mapgen is recommended (v7 mapgen is also supported but not so well).I tested this mod in Minetest Game and MineClone 5 successfully. You can use the "mobf_trader" mod to add villagers to the village, but villagers may float above the houses sometimes.

  • One of my favorite Minetest Mods

This is one of my favorite Minetest mods. I love the high frequency of villages and houses. I like that you can find villages and structures with a chat command. I think this mod provides better villages than villages in Minecraft.

  • Nice Starting

I have ran into 3 bugs so far playing for only 30 minutes. But love this. I see such great potental. I will dive into figuring out the bugs on my end. I need to study more on how to set up my own town in this game. Great job. Keep up the updates and I will see what I can do from my side of things.

  • Very cool

Makes the world feel civilized and lived in. Very nice builds and they generate into the mapgen very gracefully. If you want your world to feel well developed and lived in as opposed to the endless frontier you often see in many minecraft adjacent building games, this is your mod. The only thing I can think of that would complete this is if roads or paths could gerate too, but I get the sneaking suspicion this might be asking entirely too much. I have no idea how hard that would be to implement.

(Edit: I'm dumb and cannot read, so the entire other half of this comment was pointless. Carry on mod author, very cool work ^^ )

  • It works just fine

The only thing I could suggest is that at some point, it would be nice if the settings of the mod (that you can adjust in config.lua) were accessible from inside Minetest options. That way it would be easier for players to setup their world the way they want with this mod enabled. The other thing is that I don't see any NPC spawning, and I have mobs_npc enabled. A village without villagers makes no sense.

  • Breathes life into the server

When i walk around on the Mapgen paths made by another mod, what i'd normally see is mapgen scenery and the occasional Willhimes people's house. But with this mod, what i have is a population density similar to the UK. It's difficult to walk anywhere without finding lodging and a place to sleep for the night. Every so often you find the occassional village, making it all the better.

However, and this is why i'm neutral, the houses seem to displace the mapgen paths, meaning i'll need flight privaleges to keep walking. This is quite a bad thing.

  • The villages are detailed nicely and make for nice settlements

The various objects added by this mod are neat, you can sit on benches and use the mill to turn wheat into flour. And there are quite a few objects that can be used to make new builds or further customize existing ones.

I use this along with zorman2000's "Advanced NPC" mod to populate the villages. Finding it and the various mods needed to get it working was worth searching for it. A combination of these two is something extraordinary.
