Getting Started
- New players receive a Map Book automatically
- Existing players can craft one
- Otherwise you can always use
/mapto open the map - It may take a moment for first map tile to generate on first join of newly created world as the world is still generating. Give it a moment and walk around a little.
- make markers by opening map gui, writing name in top right box, and clicking color button. A marker will be placed where player is standing.
- Pressing "manage markers" button opens marker management gui.
/markersAlso works. - Make a map party with
/mapparty <partyname> <player1> <player2> ....to automatically share discovered map tiles. and see other players position markers./partyguiwill open a gui to let you manage party. (Automatic Marker sharing on creation for mapparty members is a planned feature!)
Notes:
Works with Minetest Game, MineClone2, NodeCore, and most other games (though quality of the map image isn't gaurenteed due to need for colormap finetuning on a per game basis which is WIP, expect some grey spots for now). Compatible with all mapgens and respects server privileges.
Map tiles are saved as image files in your world folder typically around 1kb per tile. This mod may use significant disk space in well-explored worlds. Work is is planned to be done to further improve computational optimization.
Map tiles take a moment to generate so your map may appear blank for a moment if you open if right after discovering a new area. A tool is planned to be developed to help pregenerate map tiles in a wide radius around spawn to help server owners reduce on-the-fly generation overhead.
Thank you for playing with my mod. Discovery Maps took many weeks of unpaid development to get into a working state for release. If you would like to help support my open source development efforts to make Luanti games better for everyone, please leave a comment/review here on CDB or on the luanti fourms, make an issue or contribute to the git, and check out my donation links. I hope this helps you enjoy discovering your worlds together with family and friends.
