On another note, I recommend trying out the creative mode by disabling player damage before joining a world. You can see all the available blocks there
Thank you for the review! Regarding survival mode, everything is in very early alpha, so things are very buggy and bound to change in the future.
The general idea for crafting is to implement a "list" interface, a bit like Terraria, where the user can choose what combination of items to use in order to craft different stuff. I also plan on having flavor text that explains what each item does, but that will take a bit to implement.
Leaf blocks are bound to change in the future, I just couldn't yet figure out a way to do proper leaf decay, so they instantly break as of now.
I didn't notice that the placeholder "fruit" item needs its code changed. The crash has been resolved :)
I admit that the game's design is a bit hectic at the moment. I have quite a few ideas for it, though its development has slowed down a bit since I need to prepare for exams. I will, most likely, continue working on this game more seriously in late June.
EDIT: I have fixed the crash and leaves now drop their items when cutting down trees.
Disclaimer: I haven't played Minetest during its 03~0.4 development cycle, so I went into this game practically "blind", without knowing what to expect.
It is quite fun, and definitely has its own charm. You can go mining, smelt ores, eat rats (yikes!), and fight weird but interesting mobs.
I had no idea about the "Guardian" before playing and it startled me like crazy when I first went mining, lol.
I believe all the textures and sprites are the original, made by celeron55 himself. They have a cool, grainy charm to them. The player sprite (which also appears to be the default in Luanti if there is no model set) makes me think either of a mysterious alien, or some sort of hooded man/wizard.
One little note is that it seems some crafting recipes are missing or some blocks just have no other purpose, like is the case for jungle wood.
Overall, I think this would be great for someone looking for a really simple survival game that also has an oddly eerie atmosphere.
I must also say that I really like the terrain generation in this game.
As the description states, it's a lightweight base for modding and extending, allowing players to extend the game either through downloading some awesome mods, or writing their own!
Despite not having much (since it is meant as a base), it does feature a lot of what one would expect from a voxel game OOTB, like crafting, furniture, smelting etc.
