No, sfinv is designed to be extensible. You should use formspec prepends to theme sfinv (and other GUIs too). If this is not possible, then you can override things from another mod without having to edit sfinv's code (read the API reference)
Manual copying is still copying. If the models in 22i/amc are all manually copied using Minecraft models as references, then this will be copyright infringement

In the future, please can you use the "Report" feature as that allows us to keep track of these issues better - it also notifies us immediately
This existed as a third party mod and then was added to Minetest Game :). It's on ContentDB as Minetest Game isn't the only game
