I have no idea how we are intended to explore caves in NC without a long-term light source. Thank god for coal lanterns.
That said, I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to make a luxlamp. I don't even see a recipe in the code...Is it even craftable?
*EDIT* It was literally the last thing in the file, now I feel kinda dumb.
Overall, a very nice mod- the boats work well, models are great, and the physics are great. I'm a big fan of this mod.
However, the boats are slow. If you want to go in a particular direction and the wind happens to be in your favor, you'll go fast- but anything else and you'll be going really slow. Turning off your sail (which you can toggle with Spacebar) will make you go a little bit faster, but still not as fast (about 2/3 as fast) as the regular boats:boat! There is really not much you can do when the wind isn't agreeing with you.
If you use this mod alongside the boats mod, you might find yourself using the boats:boat more than this one for that reason.I propose something like up-wind propulsion (which happens in irl boats) - some new physics to make this a rival to the boats:boat! People smart enough to sail their ship well should be rewarded by beating out the boats:boat guys :-) Thanks for the great mod, Termos!
If you want to explore caves how they were meant to be explored (which is not towering cobble up to get higher!), this mod takes the stage. If there's a cliff or a ledge you want to get up on, just throw your grappling hook up there and climb up! This has made spelunking a lot more fun for me, since I like to explore rather than mine a lot of the time :)
Additionally, this mod adds a few other nodes other than the ropes/hooks - The PChest is a portable inventory (which can be quite useful to store your ores on a mining trip, as well as many other applications), there's a mouth breather assembly in case you want to venture far into the ocean, and a slingshot for throwing stuff at other players/mobs!
This mod goes way beyond the title: The glass designs are great and all, but how you use the designs can make or break your experience! The glass can be partially embedded inside other nodes, meaning that you can make rounded/complex windows in many different ways. This may not seem like a lot, but it adds a lot of detail and beauty to any building!
The last example is my own design which has a window in 0 nodes! The trick is that the window node is hidden in one of the adjacent 'nodes' - this is with no changes to the mod, so you can do it too :)
Now I can secretly deliver presents to my friends (and enemies). I will definitely NOT gift them fissile uranium or strontium powder.
And also it's really nice how the ribbon due to being a particle appears almost three-dimensional, and you can also jump and bounce on those!
This mod is like a breath of fresh air for the commonly dull building process. I will use it to construct some nice arenas in order to conduct epic battles with my friends using firearms.
Other schematic editors are just not as simple as this mod! I have used this for all of my schematics for more than 3 years now, and can say that I have never run into any problems.
I agree with Hugues, that a function to quickly change nodes within the region would be useful, especially for turning air nodes into void nodes. One can also use Worldedit to accomplish this- it hardly adds any new complication, and is quick & easy to use.
I apologize in advance for my bad English, Google Translate helps. The game is very well paced, it has a good idea. It can be seen that the game is still in the beginning, there are a few bugs (cubes for the base of the turrets disappear out of nowhere, so you can't develop the offensiveness of your ship). It's nice that the game alerts you to approaching ships (friendly and enemy). I'm looking forward to gameplay improvements, expansions, and most importantly bug fixes.
These portable powerbanks, which charge in the battery box, are truly a quality-of-life addition for any modbase containing technic: Being able to charge your tools on the go is a lot nicer than you might have thought it would be and makes for more productive mining trips.
Everything about this mod is pretty awesome and I'm a big fan of it: I'm sort of being overly critical here to try to review this mod as best as I can.
The dinosaurs themselves - The mobs feel very consistent in the style as well as the textures, ElCeejo has obviously put a lot of work into making things stick to a certain design! The animations are also great, and each animal (except for water mobs and flying mobs) have a sleeping animation during night, which is really cute. Pathfinding is pretty decent, especially compared to other existing mobs mods. The amount of mobs added here, as well as the quality, make for a great experience: I look forward to new updates.
There are a few obvious problems: for example, the pteranodon model has a missing face, as well as the plesiosaurus model, which doesn't make for a good look. Things like velociraptors and smilodons can glitch right through solid nodes because of their small collisionboxes and high speed: and you're going to have some trouble building an aviary for your pteranodons too because they seem to glitch through anything with a bit of lag.
The dinosaurs can also be fairly robotic at times. Sadly, there is no good way to fix this without a lot of new pathfinding code and animations, which no other mod does except draconis (and a few animalia mobs).
For animals with big collisionboxes, enclosures can be easily made and maintained. The electric fences included with the mod will keep your dinosaur inside the enclosure, but it will also damage the dinosaur each time the collisionbox goes into the electric fence, killing dinosaurs if you aren't careful. I'd love to see a better implementation of this concept: like an electric shock which doesn't actually damage the mob, but makes it run a small distance from the fence.
Despite these issues, this is truly an underrated mod with stunning visuals and gameplay, kudos to ElCeejo. More in the comments->
If you're looking for a good skin mod without all the bloat of mods like u_skins, this is for you. A ridiculous amount of media can simply go into skin options on public servers nowadays, and this mod makes that media almost 0.
Additionally, the customization features are pretty good: to rival u_skins textures a few more options might be needed, but this mod does all it needs to: offering a fantastic alternative to bloated skin mods! The formspec is also top notch. Recommended!
Very fun and engaging puzzle game with a lot of potential
I had a lot of fun traversing the various levels this game had to offer.
I found some of the puzzles to be difficult, but none seemed completely impossible or ridiculous. The levels never felt repetitive or lazily put together, and the puzzles kept me thinking of different approaches to escape each room.
I think the groggy reduced gravity and pitch movement were clever features that added a much needed layer of depth to the gameplay (that also helped to sustain the feeling of the “space” theme).
The music felt like it could have been more well-suited to the environments, but was calm and relaxing (probably better for puzzle solving).
I like the simplicity of the main game mechanics. It is refreshing to see a game like this build an engaging and atmospheric experience around a simple concept like pushing and pulling blocks around.
Criticism:
I would have liked to have seen more unique, game-specific textures.
Hidden portions of puzzles were a little confusing for me at first.
I wanted more levels :)
The lava ingots can be used for all sorts of recipes in other mods, providing a great use for lava; as noted, stuff dug with lava tools is put in your inventory as the smelted item (digging cobble, for example, yields stone), and lava tools can light players/nodes on fire (seems a little OP, but definitely realistic :)), so the tools actually serve a purpose!
I have experimented with setups to farm lava ingots the fastest and have settled on one that uses pipeworks: 4 advanced vacuuming tube segments with max range (8) are put on the sides of an autocrafter which is configured to craft lava orbs and is sitting in a lava lake. You will only need to fill the autocrafter with maybe a few stacks of mese crystals, and then fill your inventory with random items. The trick is to have your inventory full, so the buckets drop after collecting the lava, which are then vacuumed and processed by the autocrafter. The empty buckets are then found in the output slots of the autocrafter, so you can do it over again. After you've gathered all the lava you can in that spot, you can move to a new lava lake.
wasnt really sure to put as the title for this review, but selected combination of minor dislikes this that sums up my thoughts. from things such as the gameplay, to the artwork, it feels really disconnected and not put to together that well. to take an expression, it feels like a house was built to the shape houses typically are, but the outside and inside where painted a hodge podge of colors
fair disclosure, the first time i played this it gave me a headache.
I think this game is pretty fun, because while at its core, its a simple puzzle game, the multiple different pieces you have to move to reach the next level in some cases is pretty thought provoking. additionally, for a jam game, there is a pretty good level of immersion/focus on detail, with things like the fade in that you almost would miss if your not paying attention
This improves lag from smartshops a lot, as I was able to see first-hand on Tunnelers' Abyss, and the api just ends up being much smarter than the original. The new currency system works great, allowing you to make purchases such as buying something that costs a "10 note" for two "5 notes". Additionally, the smartshop updates with the meta from the item which will be sold to you; in the original, this was not implemented and could be used to sell you a below average item while advertising a fully-upgraded item.
Fair warning, your smartshops will mostly have 2D sprite displays now instead of the 3D model entities. This can be a painful reality, and some people were fairly upset about it, but in the long run, your client will thank you for not having to render those 3D entities.
These particular shapes seem to be best suited towards ancient western buildings, like Greek, Indian, or Egyptian buildings. If you're looking for more modern shapes, try mymillwork by Don, although it is a bit heavier.
I enjoyed mindlessly building and thriving with the supplies from the missions. The air supply draining was a good addition. I wasn't able to finish the game, but I quickly got the jist of it: it's fun and keeps you busy expanding your lunar outpost more and more!
Spawning without the spacesuit outdoors on the moon surface was a bit jarring. As others have noted, you need to stay clear of the landing sites, or you'll be encased in the landing rocket. The first mission was the most boring for me, but it must have been because I never got into the technic side (time constraints) and simply grew the crops myself. The fact it didn't include lunar gravity was unfortunate, too. It warned me that the image "smartshop_animation_mask.png" can't be loaded.
Borrowing a bit from existing content, it offers nice gameplay and simple missions for a linear progression. I recommend this.
Hunting these is a lot of fun: sadly, they have no practical use, but several mods add uses for the nyancat nodes. Miss the days when nyan cats were bundled with minetest_game :) The original nyancats didn't glow AFAIK(?), but no complaints.
Parkour? In my computer cables?! It's more likely than you think...
This left such a cool impression, it felt so complete and fun, wow! The intro sequence is cool, and its story is engaging right from the start. It was clearly well tested: I didn't find any obvious bugs. :) It features a secret level, and the game soundtrack is neat and varied. The abilities you learn along your journey all help you in different situations, at various points in the game: awesome!
Collecting electrons while power-sliding is a bit finnicky, I found, but this is really the only complaint I have for the Jam version.
Well done, the experience was really refreshing for a Minetest game. Totally recommended!
Simple, but very nice mod- great for decorating bakeries or birthday parties, or eat the pies as a satisfying dessert. Would reccomend brushing your teeth afterwards though, because sugar content can be up to 50%!
The models are not too high-poly, but not too low either, fitting right into most game styles. This can be used for a wide range of buildings, from vintage/medieval to modern/space styles, and the mod itself is well-polished- although I could cry a bit about the expensiveness of the recipes since I use them so much for my builds :)
The functions provided are mostly extremely useful and have practical applications in cleaning up griefed terrain, making buildings (and even 3D mazes!!), filling caves, adding a type of tree to a pre-existing biome, and much more. Unfortunately, a few crashes/bugs still exist, but this is an impressive mod with (hopefully) a bright future - Kudos to sbrl!
A neat little adventure with an open ending. The texturing work is really realistic and detailed. The story is engaging, and the overwhelming silence gives an ominous feeling throughout: the choice to exclude most sounds and music works. I had fun solving the puzzles for the electricity.
The ending is not very rewarding, and repetition of the same journal entry in many different instances felt strange. The story felt unfinished, as well. Some text in the bridge terminals is cut off.
Generally, it's an immersive experience with impressive world-building. I recommend checking it out!
I would have liked to recommend this as an educational mini-game, but it prevented me; it does have educational potential, though. The ending was funny, with the trombone sound. The charger was neat! The mapgen is standard, but nice nonetheless, and the game doesn't overstay its welcome either, being over quickly if you don't dig down...
As I said, even though it teaches the geology of the Moon, the fact every single material you mine in eccess has to be placed again in the world leads someone who, to their dismay, committed the mistake of starting to dig downwards, to spend even more time at it; and for what? To be left angry at yourself for wasting said time lol.
I'll try this again when it receives some more content additions, for now I can't recommend it.
Standalone mod with similar functionality to xdecor's Ender Chest
Other than the particle effects (which are cool!) and recipe, this is a standalone copy of xdecor's Ender Chest. A lot of the code differs, but the functionality is the same. As a standalone mod, if you aren't using xdecor, this works pretty well.
That music! Make it stop! It feels weird to commit heinous crimes while tormented by those beats. xD Ahem, the game features a decently detailed city. It's complete chaos outside the spawn area. You can hurt your fellow inhabitants in gruesome ways.
You keep your loot upon death. I think the "secret" here is the "Xtreem" logo found on a building...
Now, the oppressive atmosphere failed to make an impact, because of the cheesy tunes. The rooms in some apartment complexes are very unfinished; you can also enter anybody's house, no brute-forcing or keys required (I guess this is excused by the chaos everywhere). Exiting and re-entering a world gives you more bombs, but also displays the story again. Watch out, because this game sets the "time_speed" setting in minetest.conf to "0"! The "cops:pig_spawner" node has no texture. Civilians don't react at all when hurt by the player. The extinguisher seems useless. The destruct-o-meter goes over its limit.
It's an experience that doesn't really offer much, because of its lack of stability and general direction.
Great texture pack for those who want to relive early minetest days! The Mese texture, in my opinion, is the most classic/iconic thing from these early textures.
Sadly, the styles of this texture pack seem to conflict quite a lot. Some of the textures are slightly modified from minetest_game textures, some of them are slightly modified from PixelPerfection, and some of them are from Isabella II. In general, it feels like a mess of existing textures.
This is one of my favorite packs because of the aesthetically pleasing style and the consistency throughout the pack. It also gives a very nostalgic minetest feel, in my opinion, because of the old-style textures. Give it a try :)
Yep, this game is definitely going to give you a good scare if you play it for a while! The atmosphere is top notch: you're able to hear the creepy movements of the enemies in the distance and the many ambience noises are played frequently, giving this game a spooky vibe. One of the spiders made me physically jump, because it flanked me when I was trying to spot it. D: There are many objects to interact with and some POIs to find. Even though there was no way to win, I still enjoyed trying my best to survive.
On the negative side, the quest goals aren't all available, so the game is unbeatable. I found one undefined item "ssp_base:moniter_screen"; the layout of rooms is also more that of a labyrinth than that one of a spaceship, IMO. The enemies spawn very frequently, so destroying spawners is always risky.
I wish this could have had a proper ending, but anyhow it gets a recommendation.
Got lost on the way to the protest, killed myself to escape
Insane Protestor greets you with a big load of content warning tags when you view it on ContentDB, and fair enough. It's an edgy kind of a game, but not really particularly so when you get down to it. You're first presented with a happy upbeat soundtrack, which plays throughout and provides a kind of sinister juxtaposition to the violence and destruction of the actual game. It definitely has a story, with pictures and all, though who you are ends up mattering little in the violence and destruction that follows.
Insane protestor seems to revolve around one core gameplay goal: fill the destruct-o-meter. Unfortunately, doing this won't actually achieve anything. Nor will dying cause a lose condition: you will just respawn in your apartment, destruct-o-meter still rising. You will soon end up pursuing other goals like trying to explore the city. That there's an item dupe if you reload the game doesn't matter so when victory is nonexistent anyway (perhaps there's a message in that fact). The city is somewhat lacklustre, but at least it has been filled with a good number of assets from a lot of mods. Thanks to Insane Protester I know know xdecor has a good toilet model, for instance, or there's a fire extinguisher mod.
Even disregarding the lack of a win condition, the game is just not smooth either. Buildings are mazes, and your speed sends you careening down every stairwell to take fall damage. There are many ways to crash the game by right-clicking nodes or the intro formspec. The combat is unsatifying because both weapons are bad: the pipe bomb always seems to damage you no matter how far you throw it, and the throwable firebomb doesn't seem to actually deal any damage.
Lacking good architecture, good code, good story beyond the introduction and good gameplay elements means I can only recommend Protest as a 5 minute thing you play just to be edgy for a bit and to see what stuff there is out there for Minetest in various mods.
Simplicity and variety of levels convinced me this is a good addition to the Game Jam of this year. Its gameplay is rewarding and well adapted to the interstellar space theme, while always being unforgiving to most errors. The atmosphere is relaxing, but I feel pushed forward by being allowed to see the levels ahead.
In level 5, when the structure nodes are introduced, a section is misleading you into thinking you'll be safe, leading you to the void instead, but I guess it's fine. The concept and textures might be considered basic by some, however I think it doesn't hurt the experience much. I didn't really find anything else to report on the negative side. :)
A great zen puzzle game to lose yourself into for a while, I can recommend it.
This mod adds gigantic caverns and many biomes that are truly very interesting to explore and mine in. The crystal stalactites and stalagmites are my favorite thing about this mod. If you want to get to the top of any cave: it's going to take a while without fly mode :) The large caverns also prove to be awesome for mob-implementation: smaller caverns are hard to navigate for most mobs.
For smaller caverns and even more biomes, check out Hume2's mod Underground Challenge.
These machines are fairly easy to figure out, and can be used to do almost anything: build complex walls, structures, mazes, roads, or railways, by building things with a delay or offset, dig uniquely shaped tunnels underground, cool lava or melt snow automatically, and a lot more.
In general, this is one of the most intuitive machine mods that I have seen, where the user has incredible control over the machine they build.
One shortcoming is that the digtron inventory ejector is extremely laggy, and it's not clear how it can be dramatically optimized. Using pipeworks injectors for emptying the digtron inventory storages ends up being much nicer and reliable.
A medieval-themed mod with a nice selection of stuff to build with. This has been used in countless servers by now and can be used to produce beautiful buildings.
There are a few complaints: For people that are used to working with the circular saw or mymillwork, the lack of interior corners on Sokomine's roof nodes can come as a dissapointment. Additionally, the anvil has several bugs (including a crash you can get quite often), and you can get the HUD element stuck on your HUD permanently (until you relog) if you try hard enough.
Should be part of vanilla NodeCore
I have no idea how we are intended to explore caves in NC without a long-term light source. Thank god for coal lanterns. That said, I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to make a luxlamp.
Too sweet
Simple, but very nice mod- great for decorating bakeries or birthday parties, or eat the pies as a satisfying dessert. Would reccomend brushing your teeth afterwards though, because sugar content can be up to 50%!
Best lighting mod at the moment IMO
The models are not too high-poly, but not too low either, fitting right into most game styles. This can be used for a wide range of buildings, from vintage/medieval to modern/space styles, and the mod itself is well-polished- although I could cry a bit about the expensiveness of the recipes since I use them so much for my builds :)
Must-have if you use WorldEdit a lot!
Intrigue on the spaceship
A neat little adventure with an open ending. The texturing work is really realistic and detailed. The story is engaging, and the overwhelming silence gives an ominous feeling throughout: the choice to exclude most sounds and music works. I had fun solving the puzzles for the electricity.
The ending is not very rewarding, and repetition of the same journal entry in many different instances felt strange. The story felt unfinished, as well. Some text in the bridge terminals is cut off.
Generally, it's an immersive experience with impressive world-building. I recommend checking it out!
Sometimes a bin goes a long way
I would have liked to recommend this as an educational mini-game, but it prevented me; it does have educational potential, though.

Now I know why he is insane...

Only a handful of textures included
Currently, on 11 textures are included. The textures are also in a highly conflicting style, sadly. This is not a usable pack yet. :(
The nostalgia
Great texture pack for those who want to relive early minetest days! The Mese texture, in my opinion, is the most classic/iconic thing from these early textures.
Remix of some other texture packs
Sadly, the styles of this texture pack seem to conflict quite a lot. Some of the textures are slightly modified from minetest_game textures, some of them are slightly modified from PixelPerfection, and some of them are from Isabella II. In general, it feels like a mess of existing textures.
Excellent artistry by Gambit & renovation by jp
This is one of my favorite packs because of the aesthetically pleasing style and the consistency throughout the pack. It also gives a very nostalgic minetest feel, in my opinion, because of the old-style textures. Give it a try :)
Survival focused and unsettling

Rewarding puzzle solver
Great for exploration and mob-implementation
This mod adds gigantic caverns and many biomes that are truly very interesting to explore and mine in. The crystal stalactites and stalagmites are my favorite thing about this mod. If you want to get to the top of any cave: it's going to take a while without fly mode :) The large caverns also prove to be awesome for mob-implementation: smaller caverns are hard to navigate for most mobs.
For smaller caverns and even more biomes, check out Hume2's mod Underground Challenge.
Logical mod that can be used to build or mine
Nice game but needs some more interesting gameplay
Pretty cool design and GUI!!
One of Sokomine's greatest works
A medieval-themed mod with a nice selection of stuff to build with. This has been used in countless servers by now and can be used to produce beautiful buildings.
There are a few complaints: For people that are used to working with the circular saw or mymillwork, the lack of interior corners on Sokomine's roof nodes can come as a dissapointment. Additionally, the anvil has several bugs (including a crash you can get quite often), and you can get the HUD element stuck on your HUD permanently (until you relog) if you try hard enough.
