    Without it not possible

I checked now how good this mod is and how it helps. Without it, it is really hard to bild fast buildings

    Must-have for a "darkcore" world.

When I first saw this mod, I was uncertain about its value, since generally NodeCore encourages players to be methodical about lighting, and the light sources in this mod fill a very narrow niche once the player has unlocked Optics.

However, playing on Kimapr's "darkest NodeCore" server running Nodeternal Darkness, this mod is an extremely valuable addition to that world, and balances excellently with the darkness. Players tend to build their settlements at some distance apart, and avoid building networks of lighted areas to connect to each other, to defend against griefers and thieves. Portable light sources, relatively unimportant in Vanilla NodeCore, are the principal way for players to travel between settlements and avoid getting lost or falling in pits. Torches are a suitable emergency light source for getting started at the very beginning of the game, but the longer-lasting light sources make pre-optic living more tolerable, and the powerful Luxlamp is a reliable workhorse for long-distance travel and exploration.

On Vanilla, as well, while these tools don't play as vital of a role or take center stage in gameplay, they also do not really significantly unbalance the game, and can make things like finding lost tools dropped into a dark cave a little less painful, for players not looking for such unforgiving consequences for carelessness.

    The best profiler (yes really)

The mod is very simple to use (only tested on linux). One of the best tools to find out where CPU time is being used unnecessarily. Conclusion: I love this mod

Majorly improved performance of my game/server

I maintain NodeCore, a very complex game spanning over 20k lines of code. For some time (apparently years), a serious performance issue had been slowly building up on my NodeCore server, causing bad lag spikes, and my players and I were having no luck figuring out the cause. Minetest's built-in profiler was no help, and I had tapped out its extremely limited abilities a long time ago.

After being pointed to the JIT Profiler, and figuring out how to use it and interpret the results (read the description carefully), it helped solve the performance problem very quickly (a raycast happening too early in a sequence of checks), and also identified other performance issues that I hadn't even detected yet (uncached privilege checks, dynamic lighting checks, and more).

I highly recommend all modders who care about quality use this tool and test performance of all their packages. It is a little complex to run but very much worth it.

The best cartoony non-pixel-art texture pack

While not perfect in my opinion (e.g. I don't really like the leaves) it has some really good looking textures. I like the fact that it's not pixelated: sometimes people want to try something different or just don't like the minetest "noisy" pixel art.

    Good job👍

some downsides have been fixed, players have a lot of fun w/ the mechanics.

overall, this mod gets an upvote from me, though there are some downsides. however, some old downvotes critique things which have been solved.

    things which have been fixed:

    • you can disable the syringe (disable_syringe = true in user.conf)

    • you can disable specific mobs you might think are inappropriate in user.conf, e.g. killer santas, by editing the petz_list setting in user.conf

    • the mod can be used reliably. it doesn't have any serious conflicts w/ other mods, though there are a few aesthetic conflicts

    pluses:

    • mod is actively maintained

    • the tamed mobs are much more reliable than mods_redo

    • there's quite a lot of variety, and new content gets added all the time

    • there's a number of different mechanics that players enjoy engaging with

      • people like taming and keeping petz

      • people like keeping beehives

      • werewolves are fun

      • playing fetch is fun

      • some things are easy, and some are difficult but rewarding

    ambivalent, but notable:

    • the petz are "cute", but have quite basic models/textures

    minuses

    • has its own custom system for settings

    • some questionable choices of which things not related to "pets" should be included

    Sleek, luxurious, and modern!

This is a nice step up from the Moretrains Japanese Train; though it's the same model, the MeseJet has a much more refined feel. The subdued colors in the interior, combined with the dark gray/yellow contrast, make this train much more luxurious. The tinted windows are a nice touch! I also like the line number displays on the interior.

The only minor complaints I would have are odd transparency issues; for example, when looking through the windows from the outside, the floor, seats, and some parts of the wall are missing, and I can see the tracks and wheels through them.

    I agree with the description!

It is the best game! The mobs are meaningfully challenging and the progression is rewarding. There are interesting settings to find and explore.

However, I don't see a tutorial or a user manual or documentation, so there are some things you should know before you start:

Thirst. You will become thirsty in this game. You can refill your hydration by standing still in water. Craft a canteen as soon as possible!

Pine trees. You can't make charcoal with pine trees, so if you start in a pine forest, look for another biome ASAP.

Torches burn out. You can re-light them by using flint and steel on them. This incentivizes making jack-o-lanterns early, but it's a big change to not be able to use torches to make permanent markers or make a cave permanently safe. Be aware!

When I figure out why my crops aren't growing, I'll update this review with that helpful hint as well. I'm sure it's something simple I'm doing wrong, but the soil is watered and there is sufficient light... EDIT: The crops aren't growing because the Mesecons conf file sets the farming stage time to 1 hr 40 min (6000 seconds) for some reason. The forum says that this works well on a server, but I'm playing single player so the crops just never grow. Recommendation: If you are playing single player, decrease the farming_stage_length variable in games/mesecraft/minetest.conf.

This may be a spoiler if there's an in-game explanation, but I haven't found one yet: Nether portals are ignited with Mese crystals, not flint and steel.

    Anvil Bug

    It's nice.

But the anvil has a bug. It always crashes the server after completing a repair. It's not gamebraking and the repair is completed.

Here's the error report. Would be great if you fix it.

    Great mod, however..

As a moderator on the reigning most popular long term server of Minetest (held its own for several years, though many players on other servers despise the type of persons they see on it for some reason), on reports from other staff, and the realization that banned players keep coming back to the game and causing issues, I realized that the database can only hold so many ban entries/information before it resets itself, and those freshly banned or very troublesome players come back to the game before they've calmed down.

To combat this space issue, there are a variety of methods you can use.

    1. One is compression, using the functions built into the Minetest LuaJIT 5.1 beta 3 addon subsystem, or the C++ engine for mapblock/chunk compression (not the acclaimed pglz, agiannis, LZ77, K5, ZPAQ, or a trained Zstd algorithm like how Facebook and other data aggrigators use unfortunately).

    2. Another is increasing the database size, or splitting it up into separate parts that each are capable of holding more total or specific storage, for example the bans would stick around, but the ban reasons would fill up and overwrite the first entries or reset instead of releasing all those players back into the game.

And I'm sure there are lots of other methods that can be used to make this ubiquitously used mod better, but I'm no expert.

    An outstanding Minecraft spin off!

Great work on this game, especially this latest update, the implementation of so many new structures and biomes must have taken a lot of time. I do however have a couple questions, is their anyway to keep parrots on your arm? They sit on my shoulder for a couple seconds then when i move they randomly hop off. Also, would you consider make Mangrove forests a bit less dense? They look & feel very crowded, but you did a great job adding them in.
